The much anticipated FIRST STEAMWORKSsm 2017 game reveal was everything we were hoping for and more!
The FRC Kickoff is a two-day event beginning on Friday with the Founder’s Reception honoring mentors.
As part of the Founder’s Reception, Dean Kamen gives the FIRST Community homework. This year Dean’s Homework was given in two parts.
On the morning of day two, the steampunk inspired FIRST STEAMWORKSsm was released. In Texas, over 2,000 students from gathered at one of the nine FRC Kickoff events in either Austin/Dripping Springs, Dallas, El Paso, Ft. Worth, Houston, Katy, Lubbock, Pharr or San Antonio. To add to the excitement, 2017 marks a record-breaking milestone for the FIRST Robotics Competition in Texas with 154 registered teams.
The FIRST STEAMWORKSsm game is unique like no other FRC game. This is the first time teams will be on the field during competition. A total of four pilots, two per alliance will be aboard one of two airships on the competition field. This will give team members a firsthand look at the action from within the field. By allowing alliance members inside the game, this year’s challenge offers teams a chance to unleash their build creativity in new and exciting ways. From fueling the boiler, to feeding gears, to team members aboard the airship, to climbing a rope alongside the airship in the last 30 seconds of the competition and more this game has many exciting elements. We know our FIRST in Texas teams are up to the challenge of FIRST STEAMWORKSsm.
