Exciting News: FIRST in Texas Creates New Volunteer Resources Manager Role

09.23.2024

San Antonio, Texas – At FIRST in Texas, we pride ourselves on listening to our volunteers—because it’s you who make our mission to inspire K-12 students through STEM education a reality. After gathering valuable feedback from our volunteer community, we are thrilled to announce the creation of a brand-new, full-time position: Volunteer Resources Manager. This important role was developed in response to your input, as many of you expressed a desire for even more support and focus on the volunteer experience.

Why This Role Matters

Volunteers are the backbone of FIRST in Texas. With more than 7,000 incredible individuals contributing their time, energy, and expertise, we deliver over 200 events across the state each year. From rural communities to urban centers, our volunteers are creating life-changing opportunities for Texas students, and we believe it’s crucial to give back to the volunteer community by ensuring you have the support and resources you need to succeed.

The Volunteer Resources Manager will be a key player in enhancing the experience for every volunteer—making sure you are heard, valued, and empowered. By developing new strategies for recruitment, engagement, training, and retention, this role will ensure that FIRST in Texas continues to offer a rewarding and fulfilling volunteer experience for all. Whether you’re a long-time volunteer or a new face in our community, you can look forward to a more streamlined, supportive, and engaging experience.

What Will This Role Do?

Serving as a member of senior organization leadership, the Volunteer Resources Manager will oversee the development and coordination of all volunteer programs, with a focus on:

  • Volunteer Program Development: Crafting strategies for recruiting, engaging, and retaining volunteers in alignment with our mission.
  • Training and Support: Offering comprehensive training and resources to ensure volunteers feel prepared and supported in their roles.
  • Diversity and Equity: Promoting a culture that welcomes and supports volunteers from all backgrounds, ensuring equity and opportunity for everyone.
  • Volunteer Engagement: Fostering strong relationships and recognizing the contributions of volunteers, while addressing any concerns or challenges you may face.
  • Collaboration with Partners: Supporting our partners at the University of Texas El Paso and San Jacinto College to strengthen volunteer efforts across the state.

Leading the Way in Volunteer Support

This new position represents a significant step forward, not just for FIRST in Texas, but for the entire FIRST community. While many FIRST partners do not yet have a dedicated volunteer manager, we’re excited to lead the way in prioritizing the volunteer experience. This role reflects our commitment to continually improving how we support and engage with volunteers—the heart of our program.

Your Contributions are the Key to Success

We also want to express our deep appreciation to the sponsors who have made this exciting new resource possible. Their support enables us to better serve and support the incredible volunteers who make it all happen.

We believe that by providing stronger leadership, more training, accountability, and a better support system for volunteers, we will continue to grow and thrive as a community—allowing us to reach even more students across Texas with transformative STEM opportunities.

Thank you for your continued dedication to FIRST in Texas. We can’t wait to see the positive impact this new role will have on our volunteer community and the amazing work you all do.
