FIRST in Texas is excited to announce that it will be teaming up with FIRST Washington to attend the annual AISES (American Indian Science and Engineering Society) National Conference, taking place in San Antonio this October. Together, these two powerhouse regions will showcase the inspiration and excitement of FIRST® programs that are open to all students in their respective states.
The partnership aims to ensure that tribal communities are aware of and have the opportunity to engage with FIRST’s proven STEM programs. The collaboration highlights a shared commitment to breaking down barriers and creating accessible pathways to STEM education for all students, particularly those in underserved and underrepresented communities.
“This is a great opportunity to work with our friends from Washington to learn how we can better connect and remove barriers for Indigenous people participating in STEM programs,” said Jason Arms, Executive Director of FIRST in Texas. “This is what FIRST is all about—working together to create more access to FIRST programs,” Arms added.
Through their presence at the AISES National Conference, FIRST in Texas and FIRST Washington hope to foster greater inclusion and participation in STEM fields, driving home the message that these programs are available and impactful for students from all backgrounds. This collaboration is a powerful step forward in ensuring that all communities, including Indigenous ones, are inspired to take part in building the future of science and technology.
