San Antonio, Texas – We are thrilled to announce that FIRST in Texas will be participating in the CORE4 STEM event, hosted by the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. This event is a cornerstone of local STEM education efforts and stands as the largest STEM conference in San Antonio, a city poised to lead in cybersecurity, military STEM careers, and other critical areas of technological advancement.
Bridging the Gap in STEM Education
San Antonio faces a pressing need to bridge significant gaps in the STEM workforce. Recent data from the U.S. Department of Education highlights a stark disparity: while Hispanics represent 20 percent of the nation’s youth, they make up only 2 percent of the STEM workforce. Moreover, the educational attainment in STEM fields among Hispanics remains low, with only 12 percent obtaining a 2-year degree and 8 percent a 4-year degree in STEM as of 2009. As San Antonio emerges as a leader in key tech-driven sectors, addressing this gap is not just important—it’s imperative.
Inspiring Future Innovators
The CORE4 STEM Program is more than just a conference; it’s a vital initiative aimed at inspiring San Antonio’s youth to explore and pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The Program targets students who stand to benefit the most from a “STEM push,” preparing them to be the future workforce that will drive the economic success of the region and the nation.
This unique event brings together local corporations, businesses, governmental agencies, and higher education institutions, providing a platform for students to discover the vast array of STEM opportunities and careers available to them. It’s an invaluable opportunity for young minds to connect with potential mentors and see firsthand the exciting future that STEM careers could offer.
Supporting the Mission
At FIRST in Texas, our commitment to enhancing STEM education aligns perfectly with the goals of the CORE4 STEM event. By participating, we hope to not only support the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s efforts but also to make a lasting impact on the students who attend. Our presence at the event will involve interactive showcases, engaging discussions, and demonstrations of the robotics projects that embody the innovation and problem-solving skills that STEM education fosters.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of Texas’ youth and help pave the way for a brighter, more innovative future. Let’s ignite a passion for STEM in the heart of San Antonio!
