Additional grants are available through other sources outside of FIRST in Texas, including national grants from FIRST® and corporate grants. These grants are not managed by FIRST in Texas and we often have limited insight into how and when these grants are awarded. Please direct questions to the organization managing a particular grant.

FIRST provides grant opportunities to teams. These grants are managed by FIRST directly (not by FIRST in Texas). Find more information on the FIRST Grant FAQ page.

2021-2022 FIRST Robotics Competition Team Registration Gap Grant: 
Details are not yet available for the 2021-2022 season. Traditionally, teams that have not been able to secure registration payment by late November are invited to apply to receive funding to help cover their remaining balance.

2021-2022 FIRST Tech Challenge Rookie Team Grant:

Only new (rookie) unpaid FIRST Tech Challenge 2021-2022 season teams are eligible to apply for the Rookie Team Grant. Teams which have already paid their season registration or have received another registration grant will not be eligible for this grant.

  • Awarded new teams will receive a $275 registration grant to cover the full cost of the FIRST® Tech Challenge season registration and a $225 product grant to be used in the FIRST® Tech Challenge Storefront to purchase product
  • Teams must apply for the grant and meet all criteria to be eligible
  • Grant is need-based
  • Hardship funding is limited, grants will be awarded until the funding is exhausted – please remember your Gracious Professionalism® and apply only with real need

Eligibility for the 2021 FIRST® Tech Challenge Rookie Team Grant

  • Teams must use their nine-digit temporary team number to apply
  • Applicants must be FIRST Tech Challenge participants
  • Teams that have received other registration grants or have already paid their registration for the 2021-2022 season are not eligible
  • Only one application per team is allowed
  • Grant applicants must plan to participate in the upcoming FIRST® Tech Challenge season
  • Teams will be required to prove their participation at the end of the season
  • If a new mentor has an existing team as well as a new team, the existing team must be registered before the new team can be eligible for this grant
  • If awarded, teams will not receive their grant funding until the team’s Lead Coach 1 and Lead Coach 2 are both successfully screened


Arm may have funds to support FIRST teams who have mentors from Arm. Talk to your Arm mentor about applying for this funding!


NASA supports FIRST Robotics Competition teams. The grant application information for the 2021-2022 season has not yet been posted. Visit their website for more information.


NI grants are open to FRC and FTC teams in Texas. NI is committed to supporting teams with underrepresented students; specifically girls, students of color, and economically disadvantaged students. Grant funding will be awarded for FTC and FRC teams as follows:
FIRST® Tech Challenge – $500 (Unrestricted)
FIRST® Robotic Competition – $1,000 (Unrestricted)

Please submit one application for each team you wish to be considered for a grant. Applications with multiple team numbers will only be considered for one grant.

Deadlines to apply for team grant funding from NI are:
FIRST® Tech Challenge Deadline – September 30, 2021
FIRST® Robotic Competition Deadline – October 31, 2021

Teams should be associated with a school or 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (4-H, Girl Scouts, Boys & Girls Club, etc.) in order to be eligible.

Teams will be notified of their grant status by November 12, 2021.
