10.01.2024

San Antonio, Texas – As a new year of robotics launches in Texas for FIRST in Texas, we take a quick look back at the 2023 – 2024 season and have immense pride in sharing the milestones and achievements we have reached together. Our latest impact report for the 2023-2024 season is a testament to the incredible work being done across Texas, as we continue to break down barriers and expand access to our transformative programs. Through the collective effort of our dedicated volunteers and the enthusiasm of our participants, we’re shaping the future of Texas, one young innovator at a time.

Expanding Our Reach

This past year, FIRST in Texas has served over 30,000 young Texans, a diverse group of students from various backgrounds and regions, including remote rural areas and bustling urban centers. Our programs are designed to engage students in hands-on STEM learning experiences that foster valuable skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and creativity.

Impact By the Numbers

Our commitment to providing high-quality STEM education has yielded impressive results:

  • STEM Engagement: A significant number of participants have reported increased interest in STEM subjects, with many choosing to pursue further education in these fields.
  • Educational Aspirations: Data from our programs show a robust correlation between participation in FIRST and the pursuit of higher education. This year, 85% of our participants expressed a desire to pursue a four-year degree.
  • Career Readiness: Beyond traditional academic paths, FIRST in Texas is also proud to contribute to career readiness, with 78% of our alumni indicating that their experience influenced their career choice, steering them towards in-demand service trades and high-tech jobs.

Breaking Down Barriers: More to do

At FIRST in Texas, we believe every student should have the opportunity to engage in meaningful STEM learning experiences. For the 2024 – 2025 season, we’ve made measurable strides in removing financial, geographical, and cultural barriers that previously prevented many young Texans from participating. Through team grants, outreach initiatives, and the development of new partnerships, we’re ensuring that more students than ever can access our programs.

Volunteer Excellence

None of this would be possible without our amazing volunteers. Over 7,000 individuals stood shoulder to shoulder with us this year, dedicating their time, skills, and passion to help students succeed. These volunteers are the backbone of our organization, driving our programs and making a lasting impact on the participants they mentor. We are continuing to grow a diverse volunteer base that is more welcoming and more representative of our great state.

We invite all members of our community to join us as we continue to inspire and prepare the next generation of STEM leaders and innovators.
