Spotlight: New Collaboration Between FIRST in Texas and Kiewit Energy Group

10.02.2024

Houston, Texas – At FIRST in Texas, we are excited to highlight a new and impactful collaboration with Kiewit Energy Group, an industry leader committed to making a difference both in the workforce and the community. Recently, we teamed up to host a Corporate Volunteer Engagement event, organized by our Education & Outreach Director, Jane Taylor. This event brought together over 68 employees from Kiewit to help assemble the 2024-2025 FIRST LEGO League – SUBMERGED missions for use at local events across Texas.

A Day of Fun, Learning, and Connection

The event was filled with camaraderie and teamwork as Kiewit employees worked side by side building LEGO mission kits that will soon inspire young minds in FIRST LEGO League competitions. But it wasn’t just about LEGO building—the day also provided an invaluable opportunity for FIRST in Texas and Kiewit to discuss shared organizational priorities. What we found was a mutual dedication to promoting STEM education, community engagement, and fostering future talent through hands-on learning experiences.

Building Stronger Bonds

“Being able to talk to Kiewit’s staff one-on-one while building LEGO missions afforded us the opportunity to get to know each other and build that professional respect that creates stronger bonds,” said Juan Salinas, FIRST Robotics Competition Operations Manager. “I am confident we will see them at an upcoming event to learn more and celebrate the impact of FIRST programs.”

A Shared Vision for the Future

The collaboration with Kiewit Energy Group is a shining example of how corporate partnerships can have a direct impact on our programs. By engaging with corporate volunteers, we not only expand the reach of FIRST in Texas, but we also give professionals the opportunity to be part of something that makes a difference in the lives of students across the state.

We deeply appreciate Kiewit’s interest in supporting our mission to inspire young Texans, and we are excited to see this partnership grow. Together, we’re creating more opportunities for students to engage in STEM learning, while also helping build the community of volunteers who make our programs possible.

Looking Forward

As we move into the upcoming season, we are excited about the possibilities this new partnership with Kiewit Energy Group holds. Their engagement is helping to create the kind of hands-on, impactful experiences that inspire students to pursue STEM careers and become the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

Stay tuned for more exciting collaborations, and thank you to everyone who helps make FIRST in Texas a thriving community of innovation and inspiration!
