Striving Together: YTexas Summit 2024 and FIRST in Texas

10.04.2024

Arlington, Texas – The 2024 YTexas Summit, held at the iconic home of the Dallas Cowboys, was nothing short of magical. The day was packed with activities, including insightful panel discussions, engaging meet-and-greets, interactive exhibits, and captivating presentations—all designed to celebrate the remarkable innovation flourishing across our Lone Star State.

Zone 10: A Section of Energy and Creativity

One of the standout areas of the summit was Zone 10, a section filled with laughter and positive energy, harmoniously blended with the mechanical whirs and cranks of the incredible robots. “Are there any questions you have?” was our go-to line whenever someone would walk up to our setup. However, 9/10 times the answer would be, “No, but this is awesome!”

Building Confidence and Essential Skills

Our teams were presented with numerous opportunities to share their experiences with FIRST in Texas, and FIRST Tech Challenge, illustrating the impact these programs have had on their lives. This platform helped them refine their public speaking skills and introduced them to the art of networking. With each presentation, their confidence soared, voices projected a bit louder, and postures straightened. Their passion for robotics and teamwork could be felt from 50 yards away. These interactions weren’t just about showcasing their robots; they were about honing vital experiences that will serve them beyond graduation.

Hands-On Learning and Engagement

During the summit, our teams had the pleasure of demonstrating last season’s challenge and unveiling this season’s theme: INTO THE DEEP! They guided over 500 students through the exciting journey of starting or joining a robotics team, building their robots, and participating in competitions. The thrill didn’t stop there; our students generously allowed their peers to drive the robots, creating unforgettable moments of joy and engagement.

Media Spotlight and Leadership

A few of our young innovators even had the chance to be interviewed by YTexas, showcasing their talents and the hard work they’ve put into their projects. Our Executive Director, Jason Arms, added to the momentum as a panelist discussing the opportunities that FIRST in Texas presents for students as they transition from high school to their future endeavors.

Empowering the Future

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to YTexas for teaming up with us to showcase the spirit of FIRST in Texas. A special shout-out to teams #23381, #27117, and #6369 for their enthusiasm and commitment—you all were incredible, and we wish you the best of luck this season!

The Latin root of “competition,” competere, means “to strive together.” At FIRST in Texas, our young participants are not just learning how to compete; they are discovering the true essence of collaboration and teamwork. These invaluable lessons are shaping them into innovators and leaders, ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow while striving together for success.
