WORKSHOP SERIES DESCRIPTIONS:

STEM Educational Robotics Professional Development Recommended for Educators Grades K-4th

Course 1:  FIRST LEGO LEAGUE Jr. Basics for the Classroom Educator- WeDo2 (Intro) Learn how to integrate technology into your early childhood science and math lessons using coding.  Ignite learning with effective teaching solutions using robots to actively engage your 21st Century learners. This 1 day 6-hour, hands-on workshop covers the fundamentals of constructing, coding and collaborating with the WeDo 2.0.

Course 2: WeDo Math- Teaching the Math TEKS with Robots (Intro) Make abstract concepts more concrete by using tangible elements of the LEGO WeDo to reinforce fundamental math skills like counting, adding, subtracting, and multiplication.  This 1 day 6-hour workshop, introduces participants to innovative approaches to designing lessons that embed coding and robotics into the classroom activities.

Course 3: Teaching Science Process Skills with WeDo Robots (Intermediate) In addition to learning more advanced coding skills, this one day 6-hour workshop, introduces educators to strategies for aligning learning experience with TEKS for Science.  Experience hands on activities that teach key science process skills such as

Course 4: Authentic Assessment with FIRST LEGO LEAGUE Jr School EXPO (Intermediate) Participants explore methods for coaching a FIRST LEGO League Jr. team from the classroom while teaching the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for science, technology and math.  This class is good preparation for educators wishing to implement school based teams and expos.

 


STEM Educational Robotics Professional Development Recommended for Educators Grades 4th-8th

Course 1:  FIRST LEGO LEAGUE Basics for the Classroom Educator (Intro) Learn how to integrate technology into your science and math curriculum by using robots to actively engage your 21st Century learners. This one day 6-hour, hands-on workshop covers the fundamentals of constructing and coding the LEGO Mindstorms.  Every educator gain the lesson planning skills needed to start a LEGO based robotics.

Course 2: Mindstorms Math- Teaching the Math TEKS with Robots (Intro) Learn innovative approaches to designing math lessons that embed hands on robotics into the classroom to increase academic achievement. This one day 6-hour workshop, explores the best practices in pedagogy and assessment to ensure concepts engage with the real world of robotics coding and impact the landscape of how they view math.

Course 3: Forces, Motion &Robots- Teaching the Science TEKS with Robots (Intermediate) Learn how to get students actively engaged in hands on problem solving.  In addition to learning coding skills beyond the basics, this one day 6-hour workshop, introduces educators to how to teach key science and engineering principles such as force, motion, gear ratios & aerodynamics.

Course 4: Authentic Assessment with FIRST LEGO LEAGUE School Events (Intermediate) Participants explore methods for coaching a FIRST LEGO League team from the classroom while teaching the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for science, technology and math.  This class is good preparation for educators wishing to implement school based teams and competitions.

STEM Educational Robotics Professional Development Recommended for Grades 7-12

Jump Start your secondary robotics program with FIRST Tech Challenge.  FIRST Tech Challenge is designed for students in grades 7-12 to compete head to head, using a sports model. Teams are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams.  This series will give you all of the information needed to be successful using ROBOTC or Java and the TETRIX platform.

Skill 1: Structural, motion and hardware elements including wheels, gears, channels, flats & connectors

Skill 2: Basic competency in RobotC or Java coding for robotics

Skill 3: Math Fundamentals and Basic Movements with Motors

Skill 4: Basic Sensors – Sonar, Touch, and Light

Skill 5: Remote Control Skill 6: Competition Templates – Templates and Testing
