Sylvia was introduced to FIRST in 2010 through a colleague at Klein ISD. In collaboration with a couple of Compaq/HP mentors, FRC 3735 was created. In 2015, the Wood family moved to Round Rock, TX.  Sylvia took a Computer Science position with Leander ISD. She also inherited an FTC team (7064). The following year, FRC 6321 was formed. The team was Rookie All Star at the Alamo Regional and experienced world competition in 2017. FRC 6321 also earned a spot at the South World Championship in 2019.

Sylvia has been a volunteer for FLL FTC, and FRC at both the local and championship level.
