That’s why DiscoverE created the ‘Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day.’

Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (Girl Day) on February 21, 2019, helps focus a growing movement to inspire girls’ futures, so they learn they have a place in engineering a better world. In just one day you can make a difference by sharing your knowledge, experience, and some fun! Give girls the chance to think like an engineer and you’ll be amazed at what you learn!

Girls and FIRST®

When a girl gets involved with FIRST, she’s acquiring experience and skills that will prepare her as a young woman to glean even more wisdom from role models, professional mentors, and fellow robotics team participants throughout the build and competitive seasons.

Photo by Dave WilsonOne look at the FIRST Impact document tells a riveting story of how girls and young women who participate in FIRST programs excel in the STEM fields. When it comes to statewide participation, we see 33% of teams made up of girls and young women. When we dig even deeper, some areas of the state like the Rio Grande Valley have up to 40% female participation.

These numbers are impressive when compared with the national average, but we’re not satisfied with just beating the national average. We, along with our Partners, mentors, educators, volunteers, city, and state leadership continue the work of reaching even more future women in STEM.
